Akabira City
Sumitomo Akabira Coal Mine Vertical Shaft and Surrounding Facilities
Built in 1963, this vertical shaft is the improved version of the Sumitomo Ponbetsu vertical shaft. Guided tours inside the facility are offered twice a day, making this an extremely valuable facility, and allows for one to experience the massive scale of the coal mining industry.
