Akabira City
Hokutan Akama Coal Mine Slagheap
A mound created from discarding slag that is produced when sorting coal, now the landmark of Akabira. The 777 straight "Slagheap Stairs" are the longest in Japan.
(Climbing is only permitted during months without snowpack.)
