Akabira City
Sorachi River Outcrop Coal Seam
Discovered in 1857 by Matsuura Takeshiro, later inspected by Enomoto Takeaki, and American geologist Lyman who was hired by the Hokkaido Development Commissioner, the first coal field in Sorachi was confirmed. (*Can be seen in the distance from the observation deck)
